The Feather Awards where held on Thursday at the Johannesburg City Hall. In this 2018 installment of the award show, all those attending stopped at nothing to achieve their vision when it comes to their dress codes. Whilst some were looking pretty fabulous a few dressed not so appealing but that means nothing because the award show celebrates everybody’s diversity and uniqueness.
Lasizwe and Skeem Sam’s actor Cedric Fourie looked quite comfortable in their matching navy blue suits, the nails were indeed interesting. Lasizwe had the best red carpet entrance no doubt and he looked so good in all his outfits including the blue Cinderella dress he wore to present an award. Riky Rick looking on point as always and Boity wore a stunning sheer black dress by Orapeleng.
We have truly seen many outfits come out of this award show in the previous years, from Skolopad dressed in a sausage outfit and this year Sjava dressed in something that looked like a curtain, and a whole box over his head.
The build up to the show begins with a voting system, where people vote on who they want to see winning the various awards at the show. The Awards range from best styled female and male celebrities, to best hunk of the year. Prior to the event, many on social media came out saying that, the selected nominees were not a proper representation of what the LGBTI+ community is and what stands for. Sighting that the award ceremony did not live up to what its actual purpose should be.
Thami (founder and organiser) who recently met up with President Cyril Ramaphosa to talk about the LGBTI+ community set the record straight, when he mentioned in an interview, that the event has many initiatives and programs that have been running since the initial inception of the award show, to educate, impart awareness and empower those within both the LGBTI+ and straight (hetero) communities. Explaining that, although the event itself appears to be “CHEEKY” many things happening behind the scenes are not being shown effectively for the public to see.
In this year’s awards, hosted by Somizi Mhlongo who was dressed in a huge red ballroom dress (we expected nothing less from him), saw a huge kickoff to the event when the host himself, made a huge grand entrance. Not forgetting how the mega MC can be slick with his mouth.
The award show in its entirety was a huge success, and a huge chunk of the award winners actually showed up to grab their trophies. Respect to the organizers for deciding to honor the memory of the late Aretha Franklin, with many covering some of her songs, like Kelly Khumalo singing Natural Woman.
How can we miss the steamy chemistry we witnessed between Kelly Khumalo and Chad Da Don. Rumors of the two dating are still not clear, but the singer confirmed one thing, that they are happy and love each other. Some guests of the awards included Evodia Mogase, Basetsana Khumalo, Busiswa and many more!!!
